Description

Lithium-ion-batteries (LIB) play major role in our daily life as they are used in nearly all kinds of portable electronic devices. Lithium-ion cells have a certain cycle life, i.e. everyone can realize that the capacity of Li-ion battery is getting lower with time caused by the cell fatigue or aging.

The aim of this talk is to give a brief overview of the complexity of the processes supplementing the fading of LIBs and to look on the problem from different points of view. In the current presentation the general development/evolution of the cell resistances and their correlation to lithium distribution, which corresponds to the local state of health, will be discussed. Several electrochemical techniques applied to determination of the resistance of lithium-ion-batteries along with different neutron methods for probing the “mean” and “local” state of charge in cylinder-type LIB will be presented and the results will be compared.
