Description

The study of water-in-fuel emulsions has garnered significant research attention because it can help address environmental pollution issues as well as energy requirements. Incorporation of a small amount of water is shown to reduce particulate matter and NOx in the emissions from internal combustion engines. The formation and stability continue be a bottle neck for the commercialization of the water-in-fuels emulsions. In this talk, I will present our recent optical microscopy and light scattering investigation of (i) the kinetic and thermodynamic stability of emulsion fuels and (ii) quantification of nano-structure of micro-emulsion fuels prepared using fuel surrogates.
