Takin Workshop
MLZ campus Garching
As a satellite to this year's MLZ User meeting, the Data Evaluation Group is pleased to announce a Takin Workshop for the MLZ User community and MLZ partner institutes on December 4th 2026 in Garching.
Registration is free of cost, but mandatory. Please bring laptops with preinstalled Takin software
This workshop provides a tutorial on the triple-axis software suite Takin [1, 2] and its associated magnon calculation software Magpie [3].
Takin is a tool for planning and visualising inelastic neutron scattering experiments and for data analysis. Its main focus is resolution calculation, convolution of the instrumental resolution with dynamical structure factors and convolution fitting.
As an example for an entire workflow, we will model a magnetic system using Magpie, calculate and visualise its dispersion and spin-spin correlation function and convolute it using Takin to reproduce a measured spectrum.
