Overview of available modern compact accelerator driven neutron sources - CANS
by
It is evident that modern industry, medicine, life sciences and research is profiting a lot from analytical methods based on the use of neutrons. Common neutron sources are mainly neutron generators, with low neutron flux, or research reactors and spallation sources, which are large and cost intensive installations. A compact, cost efficient and effective neutron source can offer to improve and broaden the access to neutrons if made available for users either as a standalone version for high demands of a single application or as a user facility. This talk gives an overview of existing compact accelerator driven neutrons sources - CANS - and discusses machines and designs that can deliver neutron fluxes up to 1013 n/cm2/s.
The discussion of the reviewed CANS systems will be from the industrial and user point of view and refers to accelerator technologies that can act as working horses.
