NEUWAVE-6second announcement and call for abstracts

The sixth workshop on NEUtron WAVElength-dependent imaging will take place from April 6 to 10 at Technische Universität München in in Garching, Germany.

The NEUWAVE series deals with imaging techniques that make special use of energy and wavelength dependent effects in imaging, such as scattering, Bragg edges, diffraction, varying attenuation coefficients and resonances.

Steady neutron sources use chopper systems, double crystal monochromators, velocity selectors, crystal filters and fission converters.

Pulsed neutron sources use the time-of-flight technique to do time-resolved and thus energy-dependent measurements.

NEUWAVE treats

  • techniques to generate energy-variable beams

  • the construction of beam lines at steady and pulsed sources

  • measuring techniques to make use of energy dependent effects

  • and scientific measurements making use of these techniques.

NEUWAVE started in 2006 in Garching and helped to develop most of the world-wide knowledge about energy-dependent imaging; it consecutively triggered and aided in the planning and construction of imaging beam lines at ISIS (UK), J-PARC (Japan), SNS (USA) and ESS-S (Sweden), where the following meetings were held.

NEUWAVE is not a conference, but a workshop where new techniques and designs should be discussed by all the participants. NEUWAVE-6 will therefore return to its original format of a limited number of short presentations with extended time for discussion of each presentation. Participants are explicitely not required to give individual presentations each, but should participate in the discussions.

Presentations are collected and distributed among the participants, but NOT published otherwise.

Traditionally, NEUWAVE-6 will begin on Sunday, 6th of April with a walking discussion in the Bavarian Alps (the mountain will be selected according to weather conditions), where participants can combine physical and mental exercise in fresh mountain air, since many collaborations and projects have originated from these tours in the past.

Way to GATE (Map)

The premises of GATE are in the immediate neighbourhood of FRM II,
8 min walk from the subway and from the FRM II reactor; a limited number of parkings will be available for the participants.

Exiting the subway U6 at its terminus “Forschungsgelände Garching” please continue in forward direction of the train, walk straight until the end of the road of the subway exit, then turn left and walk towards the end of Lichtenbergstrasse - it is the building before the last one on the right, across the parking there. There will be signs.
If you arrive by car, stop at the interphone at the parking entrance and tell the gatekeeper you are there for NEUWAVE.

Registration & Fees

Traditionally, NEUWAVE had been free, with people paying meals for themselves.

This time, during semester, we cannot obtain rooms from University, but must rent an external room including catering.

We must therefore charge a contribution of150, which covers lunches, beverages and snacks during the conference as well as the conference dinner. (Costs beyond that are subsidized by University.) For the mountain trip, we will collect fees for the cable car from the participants, transportation will be covered by University.

Deadline for Registration is March 21.

The number of participants will be limited, and we ask you to state your interest in energy-dependent neutron imaging techniques during registration.

Payment

We cannot accept credit cards, so we ask you to pay your contribution by bank transfer (free of charge for EU countries), or in cash upon arrival.
