MLZ's Data Evaluation Group and Data Driven Discovery Group are pleased to announce a two-day Machine Learning - Basics workshop for beginners.
Following topics will be addressed:
- How to start ML projects from scratch?
- ML basics: general optimization principles, performance evaluation, model selection
- Neural networks: types, basic principles
- Introduction to large language models: basic principles, working with pre-trained models, tokenization, optimization
- Q&A session for those interested in deepening their knowledge
The workshop will take place in Garching and is limited to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants will work in groups using computers provided on site. Participants who wish to use their own laptops for the hands-on exercises will need to install a specific Python environment. Those who require assistance with the installation should contact us prior to the first day. Participants are expected to have a basic knowledge of linear algebra and some familiarity with Python and its libraries (matplotlib, numpy, pandas).
